‘No anomalies on the part of the doctors, medical staff at SMCH,’ says Pijush Hazarika

August 28: Amidst a host lot of allegations by people against treatment of COVID-19 cases at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Govt of Assam, Pijush Hazarika expressed satisfaction and said that the medical fraternity is doing well here at Silchar. He rather urged upon the people not to panic and cooperate with the health department.

“People should come to the hospital as early as possible, if symptoms develops in his body. What I have witnessed in the last 2 days at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) is that most of them have succumbed to the virus for late arrival in the hospital,” uttered Mr. Pijush Hazarika before leaving for Guwahati.

The minister was accompanied by a team of doctors from Guwahati who came to monitor the treatment procedure at SMCH. The increased death rate at SMCH was felt as a matter of concern and so the specialist doctors were brought along with him to Silchar. Speaking on the findings of the specialised doctors, Pijush Hazarika said, “The team of doctors have already left for Guwahati yesterday. However, they have already given their report. They have expressed their satisfaction with the system continuing at SMCH. In their report, they have mentioned that no anomalies on the part of the doctors, medical staff or para-medical staff has been found.”

He further urged upon the people to maintain every guideline given by the health department. People should not take COVID-19 lightly. He said, “I have seen cases where positive patients died within a day. It is a very serious disease and people should have to be more careful and cautious.” As regards allegations by many patients about facilities at SMCH, the minister said, “I do not see any complaints against our facility. Many a men, many a mind. If some body takes lunch at 3 PM and another at 12 noon, then at the same time, it will not be possible to satisfy both of them. This is what is actually happening. These are not at all any serious problems.”

As regards price rise of essential commodities during the ongoing lockdown in Barak Valley, Pijush Hazarika said, “I have already talked with the Chief Minister in this matter. He too has instructed the administration to take special note of this aspect. I also personally appeal to all traders not to make any artificial hike in prices of commodities.”
