৮ সেপ্টেম্বরঃ কংগ্রেসের ১২ ঘণ্টার ভারত বনধের সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়ে বামদলগুলিও একই দিনে একই ইস্যুতে হরতাল ডেকেছে। সাংবাদিকদের ডেকে সোমবারের এই হরতাল পালনের জন্য তাঁরা সর্বসাধারণের কাছে আহ্বান জানান। সিপিএমের দুলাল মিত্র, সিপিআই-র নীতীশ দে, সিপিআইএমএল-এর হায়দর হোসেন চৌধুরী, এসইউসিআই-র ভবতোষ চক্রবর্তী—চার বামদলের চার জেলা সম্পাদক ছাড়াও উপস্থিত ছিলেন সুব্রত ভৌমিক, চুনীলাল ভট্টাচার্য ও রফিক আহমেদ। তাঁরা বলেন, পেট্রোপণ্য ও নিত্য প্রয়োজনীয় জিনিসের দাম ক্রমাগত বাড়ছে। সঙ্গে কমছে চাকরি-বাকরির সুযোগ। ফলে কোটি কোটি ভারতবাসীর জীবন সংকটের মুখে। এই আর্থিক সঙ্কটকে আড়াল করার জন্য মোদি সরকার সাম্প্রদায়িকতার আশ্রয় নিচ্ছে বলে তাঁরা অভিযোগ করেন। বলেন, ধর্মীয় বিভাজন, পারস্পরিক বিদ্বেষ ছড়ানোর মত কাজ চলছে চতুর্দিকে। কেউ এইসবের বিরুদ্ধাচরণ করলেই নির্বিচারে আটক করা হয়। সোমবারের হরতাল এই সমস্ত বিষয়ের প্রতিবাদ সূচক। তাই সে দিন গাড়ি-রিকশা, দোকানপাট, অফিস-আদালত বন্ধ রেখে হরতালে সামিল হওয়ার জন্য তাঁরা সর্বস্তরের জনগণের উদ্দেশে অনুরোধ করেন।

September 8: After Congress declared its Bharat Bandh on Monday, left parties too gave its call for a bandh on the same day. This was informed in a joint press meet convened by the left parties at Silchar. They appealed to the people for their spontaneous support. While other opposition parties in the country like DMK, NCP, RJD, JD(S), have extended their support, the Congress has also asked civil society groups and NGOs to join the nationwide protest.

The press meet convened by the left parties was attended by Dulal Mitra of CPM, Nitish dey of CPI, Haider Hussain Choudhury of CPIML and Bhovotosh Chakraborty of SUCI. They are all the district Secretaries of their respective parties. Apart from them, Subrata Bhoumick, Chunilal Bhattacharjee and Rafique Ahmed were also present. They said that their parties have given a call for one-day nationwide Bharat bandh on September 10 to protest against rising prices of essential commodities in the country. Dulal Mitra of CPM said that, “The bandh has been planned to protest increasing prices of essential commodities such as petrol, diesel, cooking gas, falling value of the Indian rupee versus the dollar and other issues that ‘affect’ the people.” An immediate reduction of central excise duty and excessive VAT in the states, bringing petrol and diesel under the ambit of GST are amongst some of the demands of the Opposition.
