₹1 lakh, certificate & trophy to be given to parent with highest no of children: Mizoram Minister
June 22: In a bizarre announcement, Mizoram Sports Minister Robert Romawia Royte has announced ₹1 lakh cash, a certificate and a trophy to a living parent with highest number of children in his assembly constituency. This bizarre announcement comes at a time when the neighbouring Assam is striving to implement a 2-child policy. The Mizoram Minister said that he has taken the decision to encourage population growth among the demographically small Mizo community.
With only 52 persons per per square kilometre, Mizoram has the second lowest population density in the country next to Arunachal Pradesh, which has a population density of 17 persons per sq.km.
With heavy heart, #Mizoram bid farewell to Mr. Zion-a (76), believed to head the world's largest family, with 38 wives and 89 children.
Mizoram and his village at Baktawng Tlangnuam has become a major tourist attraction in the state because of the family.
