Section 144 imposed in entire Shillong to prevent ‘surprise rallies’ by pressure groups

way2barak, Nov.1: The East Khasi Hills District Administration has imposed Section 144 CrPC in Shillong to prevent ‘surprise rallies’ by pressure groups. Violators will attract penal provisions under Section 188 of the IPC, and any other as deemed fit and appropriate, the order said. The order is not applicable to religious processions, which have obtained due permission and undertake to strictly adhere to conditions given.

Section 144 CrPC was imposed in the whole Shillong city Limits, including the Shilong upper agglomeration area in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya following several incidents of assault on commuters and vandalism of vehicles on October 28 during a protest rally.
