Awareness camp on blood donation held in Women’s College
March 6: Ahead of the International Women’s Day, the NSS Unit of Women’s College Silchar along with Red Ribbon Club & Rotaract Club of the college in collaboration with Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum (BVVBDF) organised an awareness meet to sensitize the youths and students in particular about the positive aspects of blood donation.
The meet held at the auditorium of Women’s College was attended by Dr. Manoj Kumar Paul, Principal of the college and also the Cachar district president of the forum, Karunamoy Paul, Secretary Central committee of the forum, Sabyasachi Rudra Gupta, Secretary Cachar district committee of the forum and Sikta Paul, Secretary women’s cell of the forum.
In his address, Dr Manoj Kumar Paul said that blood cannot be manufactured or blood cannot be cultivated in any hospital. According to him,“ blood donation is a greatest gift .Without being a doctor we can save someone’s life.”
The purpose of the awareness meet was to remove the myths from the mind of the students about blood donation and the fear associated with it so that they can come forward to donate blood whenever it is needed, Dr Paul maintained.
Other speakers also tried to allay the fears among the students regarding blood donation and enthused the students and faculty members of the college to join the voluntary blood donation camp to be held at the college on March 7. Around 27 students of the college expressed their keen interest in donating blood to save lives.
Dr Sanghamitra Debnath, programme officer of NSS Unit of the college, teacher-in-charge of Red Ribbon Club and Head, Department of Philosophy also urged the students to take part in the noble initiative spontaneously.
