Speaker accepts resignation of Dilip Paul

প্রোটোকলের মধ্যে থেকে তাঁর একেবারেই ভাল লাগছিল না। মনে হচ্ছিল তিনি যেন সাধারণ মানুষ থেকে ক্রমশ দূরে সরে যাচ্ছেন। তাই আরও বেশি করে সাধারণ মানুষের কাছে পৌছতে ছেড়ে দিয়েছিলেন আসাম বিধানসভার উপাধ্যক্ষের লোভনীয় পদটি। নির্বাচনে যে স্লোগান তিনি তুলেছিলেন, কাছের মানুষ কাজের মানুষ, ফের সেই আওয়াজ তুলেই সমর্থকদের নিয়ে শিলচর রেলস্টেশন থেকে দলীয় কার্যালয়ে আসেন। তিনি শিলচরের বিধায়ক দিলীপ কুমার পাল।

এ ঘটনার কয়েক মাস পেরিয়ে গেছে। মাসকয়েক আগে বিধানসভার অধ্যক্ষের কাছে পদত্যাগপত্র পাঠালেও তা গ্রহণ হয়নি এতদিন। সোমবার অধ্যক্ষ হিতেন্দ্রনাথ গোস্বামী দিলীপবাবুর পদত্যাগপত্রটি গ্রহণ করেছেন। এ কথা জানিয়ে গোস্বামী বলেন, আগামী বিধানসভা নির্বাচনের আগে নতুন উপাধ্যক্ষ নিয়োগ করা হবে।

এনআরসি নিয়ে বর্তমানে শাসক ও বিরোধী দলের বিধায়কদের একের পর এক মন্তব্যের প্রেক্ষিতে অধ্যক্ষ বলেছেন, জনগণের কথা চিন্তা করে সব বিধায়ককে শালীনতা বজায় রেখে কিছু বলা উচিত। আর বিধায়করা কী মন্তব্য করছেন তা সংশ্লিষ্ট দলের পদাধিকারীদেরও দেখা উচিত। এতে সাধারণ মানুষের মধ্যে বিভ্রান্তি কমবে বলে এ দিন মন্তব্য করেন অধ্যক্ষ হিতেন্দ্রনাথ গোস্বামী।

The circumference of protocol seemed to him like a toxic gas chamber. He seemed like moving away from the arena of common people. So in order to be in close proximity to mass people, he tendered his resignation from the lucrative post of the Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly. He is none other than Dilip Kumar Paul, MLA of Silchar constituency who wished to stand by his populist slogan “man of action, close to the masses” (কাছের মানুষ কাজের মানুষ—kacher manush, kajer manush).

Many months have elapsed, since Mr. Paul resigned from the coveted post of Deputy Speaker, but his resignation was not accepted by the Speaker. However, on last Monday, Hitendranath Goswami, Speaker of Assam legislative Assembly accepted the resignation of Dilip Kumar Paul. Goswami further informed that new Speaker will be appointed soon.

As regards multifarious statements made by the MLAs of both ruling and opposition parties on NRC, Hitendranath Goswami said that they should exercise restraint keeping in view the issue of peace and tranquility. The Speaker further stated that the party leadership also should keep a vigil on the statements made by their respective members.
