Vijender Gupta to be Speaker of Delhi Assembly

way2barak February 21: Ten years ago, chaos erupted in the Delhi assembly. Marshals stormed in, gripping BJP leader Vijender Gupta as he resisted with all his might. His white kurta-pyjama crumpled in the struggle, hands clinging to the furniture as half a dozen officials pried him away.

Dramatic visuals from the assembly captured the moment—Gupta, resisted as half a dozen marshals lifted and dragged him out.

Clutching onto furniture, he fought every step of the way before being ejected. Speaker Ram Niwas Goel had ordered their removal, ensuring the Budget proceedings continued without disruption.

Fast forward to today and Gupta is back—but this time, as the speaker of the very House from which he was once thrown out.

The BJP’s stunning victory in the 2025 Delhi elections paved the way for his appointment. Having retained his Rohini seat, which he has held since 2015, Gupta now holds the gavel instead of resisting its authority.
