2 out of 4 bodies of trapped NEEPCO employees found

October 21: A fortnight ago, a major catastrophe occured at Kopili Plant after the tragic water tunnel burst incident. Since then, 4 of its employees were missing from NEEPCO-run Kopili Hydel Project in Umrangso. On Monday, bodies of 2 of the missing employees were recovered who were identified as Robert Baite and Joy Sing Tisso.

There were four persons in the power house who got stranded when the tragedy took place. However, two others are still untraceable. Search operation is on to locate them. The NEEPCO authorities have sought help from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Assam Rifles to deal with the situation.

First commissioned in 1976, the 275 MW Kopili hydro power project is one of the major power generation company in Assam.
