State funded Madrasas to be closed in Assam from November 2020: Himanta Biswa
September 1: The state government has already decided to shut down the Madrasas and Sanskrit tols in Assam from November 2020. So there arises no question of provincialisation of the Madrasas. Participating in a cut motion debate over education sector, this was stated by Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the ongoing Assembly session.
He said, “Those schools will either be merged with its nearby high schools or the teachers will be involved in the high school.” He categorically stated that madrasa system of education is no longer a part of the government education system and no more Arabic teachers will be appointed.” He further said, “If the madrasas are run in the private sector, I have no objection to it, but the government will impart secular education. So at present there is no relevance of Madrasa TET anymore. The state is now marching ahead towards modern education.” Saying so, the education minister sought the cooperation of the legislators in this aspect.
