Three Naga Militants arrested in Cachar

way2barak, Dec 18: Based on a credible intelligence input, a special operation was launched during night hours on the day before in the villages of Kroulong and Namdailong along the Assam-Manipur Border under the jurisdiction of Jirighat Police Station. During the operation  three nos of NNC active cadres were apprehended and after thorough interrogation they were arrested and taken into police custody for 10 days. The arrested persons are namely 1. Pouning Rongmai(45) Of Chamtila PS. Jirighat 2. Ditiuoayang Rongmei(40) Of Chamtila, PS- Jirighat and 3. Namjaorei Gangmei (40) Of Namdailong PS. Jirighat . These militants are suspected to be involved in the killing of NNC Cadre Gaidinchungpow Rongmei by gunshot on 12th Dec at Namdailong village in Assam-Manipur border. They were accused in connection with Jirighat PS Case No 36/23 U/S 302 IPC R/W 27 Arms Act.

Police Super Numal Mahatta informed that, during the interrogation, they have admitted that they are active cadres and area commanders in the Zeliangrong regions of the Naga National Council .The operation was jointly conducted with 39 Assam Rifles during the night hours in the uneven difficult hilly terrains which is about 60 kms distance from Silchar. Further investigation into the case has been going on.
