Assam Govt issues guidelines for reopening hostels from 15 Dec

Dec. 6: The Assam government has come up with guidelines for reopening of hostels in educational institutions in the state. The hostels will reopen from 15 December. The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) notified by the state government specified that the hostels will reopen only for the final year students and the facilities as of now will not be available for students studying in intermediate classes.

Infact, State Education Minister in a press meet on 30 November stated that “Hostels in Assam will reopen in a limited manner from 15 December. Only the final year students will be allowed to stay in hostels.” As per the latest SOP, in order to avail the hostel facilities, the students shall have to seek a consent letter from their parents. Screening of every boarder will be done before entering the hostels.

Further, the hostel superintendents, wardens, cooks and helpers engaged in hostel management will have to undergo compulsory Rapid Antigen tests before 15 December. Also, the authorities need to sanitise the entire hostel premises before reopening. The SOP also stated that the final year students in the hostels will be accommodated in dormitories in alternate beds thereby keeping one bed vacant between two students by reducing the number of inmates in each dormitory to 50 percent as per the requirement.

It needs mention here that since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the month of March 2000, the hostels in Assam were also shut.
