SMC issues strict advisory to banquet halls, hotels and BWGs to prevent improper waste disposal

way2barak, Dec 4:- The Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has issued a strict public advisory urging Banquet Halls, Hotels, Restaurants, Godowns and all Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) to strictly adhere to waste management norms during the ongoing festive and wedding season. With numerous events being hosted across the city, the Corporation has raised concern over the increasing instances of garbage being dumped on roadsides, drains and other public spaces, posing a threat to cleanliness, sanitation and public health.

The Corporation has clearly stated that any establishment found disposing of waste in open spaces or violating municipal waste management regulations will face stringent penalties. As per the provisions of the Assam Municipal Corporation Act, 2022, fines may extend up to Rs. 1,00,000, along with the possibility of legal action against violators. SMC emphasized that such irresponsible disposal not only disrupts civic order but also hampers ongoing efforts to maintain a clean and hygienic urban environment.

 

All Banquet Halls, Hotels, Restaurants, Godowns and BWGs have been directed to contact the Silchar Municipal Corporation for timely collection and scientific disposal of waste. The Corporation will provide the necessary services as per established norms, with applicable user fees. The Enforcement Team of SMC is authorized to inspect establishments at any time, and any lapse in compliance will invite immediate punitive action.

The Corporation however reiterated its commitment to building a Swachh Sundor Silchar, and sought full cooperation from all stakeholders to uphold cleanliness and civic discipline during the festive period.
