Traffic congestion at Silchar: Meeting held at DC’s Conference Hall to find a way out
June 14: Traffic congestion has become a serious problem for the commuters at Silchar. Commuters face widespread delay due to ‘unsystematic growth’ of the town and the ‘undisciplined movement of traffic.’ In order to find a plausible solution to this everyday problem, a meeting was held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar on Friday.
The meeting was chaired by the Commissioner of the Valley Anwar Uddin. Certain specific problems were discussed and plausible solutions were also offered therein. The main issues which were highlighted in the meeting are:
- To adopt strict measures to overcome traffic congestion in the way leading to Silchar Medical College & Hospital.
- To evict illegal settlement from government land and widen the breadth of the road.
- To increase the number of traffic police in the town area.
- To identify the auto-rickshaws having valid permit to run inside the town area.
- To strictly enforce wearing of helmet by two-wheeler riders.
A threadbare discussion on these issues and allied matters took place in the meeting. The resolutions arrived at the day’s meeting would be finalised in the forthcoming meeting of Traffic Advisory Board.
The meeting was attended by Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, MLA Silchar-Dilip Kumar Paul, District Transport Officer, Additional Police Superintendent and Jhalok Chakraborty as the representative of Silchar Municipal Board.
