Lockdown order in Assam is a FAKE one, stay away from rumours

March 23: A message has been circulating in social media since Monday morning stating that Assam government has declared a lockdown in the state. It was specified in the said message that “Lockdown announced in Assam for 5 days.” However, this is entirely a FAKE NEWS circulated in social media. Further, in the said Fake News, it was stated, “CM Press Meet Highlights” wherein 15 points were written where the 1st point read, “Entire state lockdown.” But on fact check, it was found that CM Assam has not hold and press meet in this regard and the news of lockdown is assam is FAKE.

Taking to twitter, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal wrote, “We have noticed that this WhatsApp message is being circulated, which is completely baseless. We will let everyone know if the Govt takes any such decisions. Request everyone not to panic in our fight against.”

State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in his twitter that he will be addressing a press conference at 5 PM on Monday. Speaking to newsmen, Dr. Sarma said there has not been a single positive case of COVID-19 in Assam till now and might be announcing some more stringent advisories in the evening. He wrote, “I shall address a Press Conference at 5 pm today to update you all on the status of #COVID19outbreak in #Assam & the containment measures being taken by the GoA. Please join us Live on FB & YouTube.”

Further, the health minister Visited Tezpur Medical College & Hospital along with MoS Pijush Hazarika on Monday. There he interacted with doctors & professors to discuss preventive measures against #COVID19 outbreak. He said, “We are all set to prevent the spread of #pandemic with the cooperation of you all.”

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also attended a meeting with doctors & professors at Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College, Barpeta & discussed steps being taken to prevent spread of #COVID-19. MoS Pijush Hazarika was also present with him along with the Health Secretary.

In case if the situation on COVID-19 outbreak aggravates, ensuring supplies of medicine and other essential medical materials will be critical. As such, the health minister also held a meeting with suppliers of various companies on Sunday to augment infrastructure and supply chain along with Mission Director, NHM. 

Meanwhile, in order to contain the spread of COVID-19, Government of Assam has decided to prohibit movement of all Inter-State passenger vehicles up to 31 March, 2020. All goods carrying vehicles, personal vehicles, vehicles on government duty and those used for emergency services are exempted.
