Another 22 tests +ve on Wednesday night in Cachar, day’s total rises to 104

July 29: Another 22 persons were detected corona positive in Cachar as per the results of the 4th slot of RTPCR Test announced around 10.45 PM on Wednesday. Prior to this, 82 persons were detected positive as per the data provided in the 1st 3 RTPCR slots and list of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). So finally, 104 coronavirus positive patients were detected in Cachar on 29 July.

Out of the 104 persons detected coronavirus positive on Wednesday, six of them are from the Fire Service office in Silchar. Many tested positive during the day through contact tracing who does not have any travel history. Apart from the fire service staff, some police personnel were also detected as COVID-19 positive. Three persons were also tested positive during the day from Fatak Bazar area of Silchar. Six more tested positive from Jirighat.

A 2-day old baby from Nivedita Nari Sangstha, Silchar also tested positive on Wednesday. An incident which took place in Hailakandi on 27 June gave a rude shock to humanity. A 2-day-old baby girl was found abandoned near a garbage dump at Sultani Bagan in Hailakandi. Later on the baby was rescued and and provided shelter at Nivedita Nari Sangstha in Silchar. The swab sample of the infant was collected on 28 July and the positive report came on 29 July. The baby is asymptomatic.

Further, among others, a doctor in Dermatology Department of SMCH also tested positive on Wednesday. He was detected through contact tracing and is asymptomatic. Dr. Dawipayan Deb (26) from Sonai Road also tested positive. He is asymptomatic. he came in direct contact with a high risk lab confirmed case. He too is asymptomatic. In the 4th slot, Dr. Shabir Ahmed Choudhury (31) from new PG Hostel of SMCH also tested positive.

Those asymptomatic patients detected positive on Wednesday night were admitted in the Covid Care Centres at NATRIP in Jhapirbond and Foreigners’ Tribunal at Rongpur, whereas the symptomatic cases were admitted at Silchar Medical college & Hospital (SMCH) as usual.

Bimal Paul (78) from Central Road, Silchar was admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) after he was detected corona positive. He died on Tuesday afternoon. His case was sent to State Level Death Audit Board to ascertain whether the death has resulted solely due to COVID or due to co-morbidity. Finally, on Wednesday, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet informed that his death was due to COVID-19. Bimal Paul was cremated on Wednesday night at Silchar Crematorium amidst protest by the local people.
