With about 5000 Covid cases being reported daily, situation alarming in Assam: HBS

May 4: In the wake of the spike in the number of coronavirus cases, the situation in Assam is also becoming grim. This was said by State Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on the sidelines to his visit at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday.

Taking to his twitter handle, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Visited GMCH and held a meet with faculty and Pr Secy Health to discuss scaling up of ICU and Hospital beds. With about 5000 #Covid19 cases being reported everyday, situation in Assam is becoming a little alarming. However, we’re prepared.”

On Monday, out of 55,939 tests, 4,489 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. This is the highest single day spike in coronavirus cases in 2021. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,63,450. The positivity rate in the state is 8.02 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,645 positive cases during the day. Further, on Monday, 29 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,389.
