With 5-graph tweet, RaGa slams centre claiming “This is what a failed lockdown looks like”

June 5: Taking a dig at the centre’s way of handling COVID-19 & lockdown, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi compared India’s disease graph to other countries to say this is “what a failed lockdown looks like”. Rahul Gandhi tweeted five graphs that showed how lockdowns in European countries had helped bring down the number of daily cases, but in India, the reverse happened.

With restrictions being eased over the past few weeks and more due in the coming days, India has seen a surge in COVID-19 numbers. India saw a record single-day jump of 9,851 coronavirus cases and 273 deaths on Friday, pushing the nationwide infection tally to 2,26,770 and the death toll to 6,348, according to the Union health ministry.

Gandhi, who had earlier said that India is the only country to have relaxed the lockdown when COVID-19 cases are rising, also shared graphs of Spain, Germany, Italy and the UK, which had shown a decline in cases after the lockdowns. India has seen a steady rise in the number of cases ever since the lockdown has been relaxed since June 1. India stood seventh among the nations worst hit by the COVID-19 pandemic after the US, Brazil, Russia, the UK, Spain and Italy.
