Winter session of Assam Assembly begins on a noisy note

Dec. 20: Assam Governor Prof Jagadish Mukhi has summoned the winter session of the Assam Assembly from December 20, 2021. This will be a 5-day session up to 24 December, which began on Monday. However, the 1st day of the winter session of the Assam Assembly witnessed stormy scenes. The issue of alleged “land grabbing by the family of Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma” was raised by the opposition who also demanded an adjournment motion, which was subsequently rejected by the Speaker of Assam Assembly Biswajit Daimary.Congress MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkaystha raised questions on the Department for the Preservation and Promotion of Indigenous Faiths and Cultures. This was countered by Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika, replied that the Congress should not humiliate the indigenous tribes of Assam. Also, AIUDF MLA Animul Islam said that they staged a walkout after their adjournment motion on the violence during Gorukhuti eviction in which two villagers were killed, was rejected.
