Whether they appear in the annual exams or not, students of Class I to IX should be promoted to next higher classes

Institutions allowed to conduct Annual Examinations offline, but it is not mandatory: Assam Govt

March 3: The Secondary Education Department of Assam in a notification issued on 1 March, 2021 stated that whether they appear in the annual exams or not, students of Class I to IX should be promoted to next higher classes. The order signed by the Commissioner and Secretary, Govt of Assam, it was stated that Educational Institutions are at liberty to conduct Annual Examinations in “online mode”.

It has come to the notice of the Government in Education Department that there is confusion among the school authorities regarding conduct of annual examination in the Elementary Section (Class I to VIII) and Class IX of Secondary section. In view of the lockdown in the State of Assam from the month of March till 01 November,  2020, the schools were physically closed and online classes were conducted by the Schools and the Education Department through Digital devices and due to Digital divide many of the students could not afford online classes.

Further, irrespective of the fact that the students appear in the annual examinations or not, the students of the Elementary Section (Class I to VIII) and class IX of Secondary section should be promoted to the next higher classes and the next Academic session should start invariably from 01 April, 2021, unless there is any further direction from the Government. The above order is also applicable to all non-Government Educational institutions in the State of Assam.
