When campaign like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ are going on, incident of Ashram Road is a shame: Tamal Banik

Sept 16: The 16 years old girl who first went missing on Sunday and then 4 days later on Wednesday, the dead body of the girl who hails from Ashram Road, Silchar was recovered from river Barak. “When the Government of India and also our state government is upholding Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, a campaign that aims to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls in the country, such instances definitely raises doubt about the sincerity of such efforts,” quipped Tamal Kanti Banik, Congress leader and former Municipal Chairperson.

Tamal Banik raised the demand of nabbing the criminals who are associated with the death of the teenager girl. He said, “Such elements who treats women as an object and even goes to the extent of killing should be provided exemplary punishment so that in future others doesn’t even dare to think of committing such crimes against humanity.” He also expressed his deep sympathy to the family of the deceased and assured to stand beside them if and when need arises.

He further urged upon the public not to take law in their hands. “An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind,”said Mr Banik. Taking a dig at the administrative machinery, Tamal Kanti Banik said, “When such an incident takes place, the administration needs to take proactive action and provide sufficient security in the area where the victim resides. The violent situation which occurred on Wednesday at Ashram road could have been avoided, if the police administration has acted soon after the recovery of the dead body.”

Sources revealed that six persons were alleged to be involved in the crime. Police are carrying on investigation and hopeful of nabbing those involved in the crime very soon.
