West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee wins bypoll by a record margin of 58,832 votes
I gracefully accept defeat, says BJP's Priyanka Tibrewal after Mamata's victory
Oct. 3: It was indeed a landslide victory for TMC at Bhabanipur constituency during the by-election. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee won the bypoll with a record margin of 58,832 votes after the last round of counting concluded on Sunday.
Banerjee, the TMC candidate in the Bhabanipur assembly seat in south Kolkata, secured 84,709 votes after the 21 rounds of counting, as per the official data. Her nearest rival, BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal, got 26320 votes while Srijib Biswas of the CPI(M) secured 4201 votes.
Priyanka Tibrewal who was fielded by the BJP against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur bypoll congratulated the later and said she gracefully accepted her defeat.
Bhabanipur constituency in South Kolkata is the seat from where Mamata Banerjee won in 2011 and 2016 as well — breaking her own record of 54,213 votes of 2011. The seat was vacated for her by state minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, who won the April vote by a margin of 28,000-plus votes.
