Webinar on Solar Eclipse to be organized by Prescientia SS School & Barak Astronomy Club on 21 June

June 20: Prescientia Senior Secondary School of Kalibari Road, Hailakandi in association with Barak Astronomy Club is going to organize a Webinar on ‘Myths & Superstitions around Solar Eclipse’ on 21 June 2020 (solar eclipse day) from 11 AM onwards. President of Barak Astronomy Club and Assistant Professor of Dept. of Physics, Assam University, Silchar Dr. Himadri Sekhar Das will act as Chief Guest in the webinar who will speak on various scientific discoveries connected with Solar Eclipse.

Renowned Astrophysicist Dr Sandipan Dhar, Fellow, Max Planck Society of Germany, will act as guest of honour, whose presentation will be based on ‘Myths & superstitions around solar eclipse’. Secretary of Barak Astronomy Club, Dr Parizath Deb Roy who also happens to be one of the Joint Managing Directors of Prescientia Senior Secondary School will deliver a talk on ‘Basic science of lunar & solar eclipse.’ Academic Director of the school and President, Enlightened Society of Hailakandi, Anjan Saha will also deliver a speech based on the webinar. President of Managing Committee of Prescientia school, who also happens to be the Principal of Hailakandi Women’s College, Bijoy Kumar Dhar will preside over the webinar.

Renowned cultural and social activist of Hailakandi Rotarian Shankar Choudhury will act as moderator of the webinar. The principal motto of organizing the webinar is to educate people regarding the basic facts of solar eclipse and to avoid unscientific superstitions around Solar eclipse by utilizing one of the best possible digital video conferencing platforms, i.e., Google Meet. Prescientian organizing secretary of the webinar Abhijit Mitra informed that the webinar link will be made available for public in various social media platforms especially in Facebook and WhatsApp on the eve of the webinar.

The webinar will also be streamed live in Facebook from the page of Barak Astronomy Club. The Principal and Vice Principal of Prescientia school, Dipankar Das and Chinmoy Dutta respectively informed that such digital initiative has been taken to utilize the leisure time of COVID-19 lockdown in an effective and productive manner. This is not the first attempt of Prescientia to aware people regarding the interesting facts of astronomy. Managing Director of Commerce section and faculty of Business Studies Bidyut Kanti Dutta and Prajna Deb added that Prescientia Group of Institutions has organized such programmes in offline platforms twice before. The day of webinar being the World Music Day, there will be musical celebrations of the World Music day too as announced by Abhijit Mitra.
