We have failed our soldiers, PM Modi act before China takes our territory, says Sushmita Dev
June 26: Congress party paid homage to the martyrs of Ladakh by observing ‘Shaheedon Ko Salaam Divas’ across India on June 26 as well as protest against reported Chinese incursion of Indian territory. As per direction of All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), an hour long programme from 11 AM to 12 noon was organised also in Silchar. All wings of the Congress participated in the occasion which was organised at the pedestal of the statue of Khudiram at Club Road, Silchar.
Former MP and President of All India Congress Committee Sushmita Dev also participated in the programme. Expressing her views, Ms. Dev said, “On 15 & 16 June, 2020, we lost 20 brave soldiers of our country. They fought protecting our territory. But it is extremely unfortunate that since the month of April, China has been building up at the borders of India. On 15 June, they built a tent at point 14, but Prime Minister Modi refused to admit that our soldiers died protecting our territory.”
Ms Dev further said, “Today the Congress party in every district is paying respect to our bravehearts and we want to ask the Prime Minister that why did you send our army-men without weapons when there was tension at the border. The restriction of carrying weapons is only during peacetime and not when China has entered our territory. This is wrong, we have failed our soldiers. Today I would like to tell the family of all these soldiers that Congress as a party stands with you.”
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, Sushmita Dev said, “PM Modi, you must act before China takes our territory away and revert it to status quo. It’s your duty to the nation.”
Apart from Sushmita Dev, also present there were Pradip Kr Dey (President, DCC) , Sanjeev Roy (Secretary APCC) , Amitabh Sen, Simanta Bhattacharjee, Sujan Dutta, Rajesh Dev, Rahul Alam Laskar, Abhijit Paul, Sajal Banik, Sanchita Acharjee, Bandita Trivedi Roy, Anjana Dev, Lovely Paul, Ashish Acharjee, Kaushal Dutta, Papon Dev, Akhtar Hussain, Faijul Haque among others.
It needs mention that Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on Wednesday announced that the party will organise another dharna against the rising prices of petrol and diesel across the country on 29 June by observing physical distancing protocols as well as an online “Speak Up India” campaign.
