War of words in twitter between Congress & BJP around a picture from farmer’s protest

Nov. 28: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday shared a picture on social media in which a cop can be seen baton-charging an old farmer during the farmer’s unrest against the Centre’s new farm acts. Along the picture, Rahul Gandhi wrote, ““It is a very sad photo. Our slogan was ‘jai jawan jai kisan’ but today PM Modi’s arrogance made the jawan stand against the farmer. This is very dangerous.”

Meanwhile, BJP IT Cell head, Amit Malviya slammed Rahul Gandhi and debunked his claims over police brutality by sharing a video of the protest. He tweeted a video of the same old farmer and wrote, “Rahul Gandhi must be the most discredited opposition leader India has seen in a long long time.” The video shows that the policeman did not attack the farmer contrary to Gandhi’s claims. Malviya said that police “did not even touch the farmer”.

Farmers have carried out ‘Delhi Chalo’ march to protest against the new farm laws, stating that they would dismantle the minimum support price (MSP) system. They raised concerns that over time, big corporates would dictate terms and farmers would end up getting less price for their crops. They also fear not getting assured prices with virtual disbanding of mandi system.
