way2barak, April 9: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma commended PM Modi’s fondness for the traditional Assamese gamosa (scarf), highlighting that no other PM had shown the same level of respect for the cultural symbol of Assam.

“No Prime Minister, be it Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri or Narasimha Rao, used to wear the Assamese Gamosa outside Assam. Even PM Manmohan Singh, who was a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, did not wear the gamosa outside the state. It is only PM Narendra Modi who wears the gamosa wherever he goes. He told me that the gamosa provides him strength and inspiration. This shows his love for the people of Assam,” he added.

The chief minister also mentioned PM Modi’s recommendation for the inclusion of Charaideo Maidam in Assam as a world heritage site saying it shows his commitment to preserve the rich heritage of the state.
