Vistadome express extended till Badarpur: Dr Rajdeep Roy

Dec. 18: Finally, North East Frontier Railway has extended the Vistadome express till Badarpur. Informing this, Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy tweeted, “Very happy that the ‘Vistadome’ express has got an extension till #Badarpur and the tourist will see the beauty of #BorailRange !” Dr. Roy also offered his thanks to the Railway Minister and Chief Minister of Assam. 

The people of Barak Valley were waiting eagerly to get vistadome coaches in the Lumding- Badarpur route. However, all enthusiasm of the people of the valley evaporated when recently the railways department announced that the Vistadome express will play between Guwahati and Lumding instead of Lumding and Badarpur.

The resentment of the people of the valley could well be gauged by Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, who immediately wrote a letter in this regard to Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Railways on 4 August, 2021. Citing the majestic scenic beauty of hills of NC Hills and Borail range, the Member of Parliament urged upon the Minister to ensure vistadome express in this route, which he said would also be commercially viable for the Indian Railways.

Further, Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy raised the matter of extension of Vistadome train to Barak Valley, in Lok Sabha on 1 December, 2021. Finally, North East Frontier Railway issued a notification on 18 December, 2021, as per which, Train No. 15888/ 15887 was extended from Guwahati- Haflong to Guwahati- Badarpur. The notification stated, “It has been decided to extend presently running 15888/ 15887 Guwahati- New Haflong Tourist Express upto Badarpur with effect from 22.12.2021.”
