Violation of party whip in Rajya Sabha poll; Congress suspends MLA Siddique Ahmed

March 31: The ugly face of Indian politics has once again come to the forefront centering the Rajya Sabha elections. Horse trading, cross voting and all sorts of allegations & counter- allegations came to surface during the voting for two Rajya Sabha seats in Assam. On charges of violation of party discipline during the Rajya Sabha election, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Borah on Thursday has suspended Karimganj MLA Siddique Ahmed from the primary membership of the party for violating party discipline.

It has been reported by Prithviraj P. Sathe, Secretary AICC, Co-incharge Assam PCC and Authorised Election Agent of Indian National Congress sponsored candidate Shri Ripun Bora for the Biennial Election to council of states from Assam, that Siddique Ahmed, MLA, Karimganj South has deliberately disobeyed the ‘THREE LINE WHIP’ issued by Wazed All Choudhury, Chief Whip, Assam CLP in regard to Rajya Sabha Election held today at Assam Legislative Assembly.

As per the guidelines laid down in the constitution of Indian National Congress, Siddique Ahmed, MLA, Karimganj South has violated the order. While casting his vote in the ballot paper, he intentionally wrote ONE instead of writing 1. In view of the above, President Assam PCC, Bhupen Kumar Borah has suspended Siddique Ahmed, MLA, Karimganj South from the primary membership of Congress Party with immediate effect for violating party discipline. •
