Veteran Congress leader Ahmed Patel passes away
Nov. 25: After Tarun Gogoi, it’s another veteran Congress leader who breathed his last. Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel passed away on Wednesday morning. He was 71. He tested positive for coronavirus last month. He died due to multiple organ failure.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “Saddened by the demise of Ahmed Patel Ji. He spent years in public life, serving society. Known for his sharp mind, his role in strengthening the Congress Party would always be remembered. Spoke to his son Faisal and expressed condolences. May Ahmed Bhai’s soul rest in peace.
An eight-time parliamentarian, Ahmed Patel served three terms in the Lok Sabha and five terms in the Rajya Sabha. He was appointed as the Treasurer of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in August 2018. He was the political secretary to the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and was widely credited with the party’s performance in the 2004 and 2009 General elections.
