আকাশপথে জুড়ছে সিকিম, রবিবার বিমানবন্দর উদ্বোধনে পাকিয়ঙ যাচ্ছেন মোদি
Sikkim to feature on India’s aviation map from Sunday

২১ সেপ্টেম্বর : আকাশপথে দেশের বাকি অংশের সঙ্গে যুক্ত হচ্ছে সিকিম। রবিবার অর্থাৎ ২৩ সেপ্টেম্বর প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদি হিমালয়ের কোলে ৪৫০০ ফুট উচ্চতায় থাকা বিমানবন্দরটি উদ্বোধন করবেন। একটি উচ্চস্তরীয় বৈঠক শেষে মুখ্য সচিব একে শ্রীবাস্তব এ কথা জানিয়েছেন।

গ্যাংটক থেকে ৩০ কিলোমিটার দূরে থাকা পাকিয়ঙ বিমানবন্দর উদ্বোধনের পর প্রধানমন্ত্রী স্থানীয় সেন্ট জেভিয়ার্স স্কুলে এক জনসভায় বক্তব্য রাখবেন। এ ব্যাপারে মুখ্যসচিব শ্রীবাস্তব বলেন, ‘আমি খুব খুশি যে, প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদি দ্বিতীয়বার সিকিম সফরে এসে পাকিয়ঙ বিমানবন্দরটি উদ্বোধন করবেন। বিমানবন্দরটি এখন পুরোপুরি তৈরি এবং চলতি বছরের মার্চ মাসে দু’বার ট্রায়াল রানও হয়েছে।’ তিনি বলেন, কেন্দ্রীয় অসামরিক বিমান পরিবহণ মন্ত্রী এবং প্রধানমন্ত্রীর কার্যালয় থেকে এ ব্যাপারে রাজ্য সরকারকে জানানো হয়েছে।

এই নতুন বিমানবন্দর থেকে প্রথম গত ৫ মার্চ আকাশে উড়ে বায়ুসেনার বিমান। এর কয়েকদিন পর ১০ মার্চ কলকাতা থেকে পাকিয়ঙ পর্যন্ত পরীক্ষামূলক বিমান চালায় স্পাইসজেট। দুর্গাপুজোর ছুটির কথা মাথায় রেখে অক্টোবর থেকে প্রতিদিন স্পাইসজেট গুয়াহাটি সিকিম ও কলকাতা সিকিম বিমান পরিষেবা চালু করছে।
এদিকে গতকাল গুয়াহাটিতে মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর সভাকক্ষে স্পাইসজেট কর্তৃপক্ষ মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর হাত ধরে গুয়াহাটি-পাকিয়ঙ বিমানসেবা আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে চালুর কথা ঘোষণা করে। স্পাইসজেট কর্তৃপক্ষ জানিয়েছেন, আগামী ১৬ অক্টোবর থেকে গুয়াহাটি পাকিয়ঙ বিমান সেবা শুরু হচ্ছে।

প্রসঙ্গত, ২০৬ একর জমির উপর তৈরি হয়েছে এই নতুন পাকিয়ঙ বিমানবন্দরটি।এর জন্য মোট খরচ হয়েছে ৬০৫ কোটি ৫৯ লক্ষ টাকা। পাকিয়ঙ বিমানবন্দরটি গ্যাংটক থেকে ৩০ কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থিত। এতদিন গ্যাংটক থেকে পর্যটকদের ৪-৫ ঘন্টা পথ অতিক্রম করে বাগডোগ্রায় গিয়ে বিমান ধরতে হতো। তবে এখন এই সমস্যা মিটে যাওয়ায় খুশি পর্যটক মহলে।

September 21: Sikkim is set to get its first ever airport in the small town of Pakyong. The flight connectivity will boost tourism in the state as travellers can now directly land in Sikkim instead of Bagdogra Airport and avoid almost a 120km journey by road. Spread over 206 acres and built at a cost of Rs 605.59 crore, the airport is an example of stellar engineering. It will be perched between the Himalayan ranges at a height of 4,500 ft.

The Pakyong airport will be the country’s 100th functional airport — and on September 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will fly in to inaugurate it. With an eye on the holiday travel season beginning with Durga Puja, SpiceJet is set to start operating daily flights to and from Kolkata and Guwahati from next month. SpiceJet is expected to operate Bombardier Q400 aircraft with 78 seats on this sector.

As the airline has been granted permission to operate from Pakyong under the Union Civil Aviation Ministry’s UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme for enhancing regional connectivity, the cap on fares for the routes is Rs 2,600. Also, gradually, the airport may connect Sikkim with other countries in the region like Bhutan, Nepal and Thailand where people from the state usually go on vacations.
