Upper age limit for state govt jobs raised to 40 years

August 27: Several important decisions were taken in a meeting of the cabinet held at the Assam Administrative Official College under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday. The Assam Council of Ministers (CoM) observed two minutes silence praying for the eternal peace of the departed soul of noted Assamese singer Archana Mahanta. The CoM also extended its condolences to the bereaved family and countless followers of the singer.

The following decisions were taken in the state cabinet meeting on Thursday:

  • According to the announcement made by the Chief Minister on the Independence Day, State Cabinet on Thursday decided to increase the upper age limit for State Government jobs in Group III and Group IV categories from 38 years to 40 years.
  • Assam Skill University Bill passed. The University will be set up in 100 bigha land in Mangaldoi, costing around ₹900 crore.
  • COVID-19: It also approved insurance to the tune of Rs 50 lakh to journalists, home guards and all casual employees who succumbs to COVID-19 infection while performing their duties.
  • The proposal of taking a loan of Rs 116 crore from Nabard for completing the construction of Dhansiri Jalsinchan project which started in 1975 was approved.
  • The Arunodaya scheme which would provide financial aid of Rs. 830 per month to the elected beneficiary families of the state was approved.
  • The amendment of Assam MSME Bill too has been approved.
  • It also decided to keep the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council and Tiwa Autonomous Council out of the purview of the proposed Assam State Capital Region.
