Unwelcome rain increases panic of already flood affected people of Silchar
June 22: Silchar is in the grip of severe flood. The flood water is flowing through all the major parts of the town. The factor that has been a major causes of concerning is the extreme pace at which the water was flowing. Moreover, the current in the water has resulted in making people bound within their houses as it had become very dangerous to step in that water.
Adding more trouble to the already flood affected people of Silchar is incessant rainfall after midnight on Tuesday. Well, the quick spell of rainfall may seize away from the people the hope that flood water will recede soon gradually. In some areas like Public School Road, Sonai Road, the water level was decreasing gradually. However, the hope that by Wednesday morning, the level will come down further was disappointed as heavy shower may once again increase the flood level in various localities.
Meanwhile, as per report received from Assam Water Resource Department, river Barak at Annapurna Ghat, Silchar at 3 AM on Wednesday, was flowing above the danger level and was recorded at 21.50 metres. The danger level at this point is 19.83 metre. The water level is decreasing at 1 cm per hour. As of now, this is the highest water level of River Barak at Annapurna Ghat this year.
