Unless on emergency services, do not step out of your houses: DC Keerthi Jalli

Water levels are rising across the district & more rainfall is predicted tonight

May 18: As the water of river Barak is increasing, many areas in Cachar are inundated. It is in this backdrop that Deputy Commissioner, Kerthi Jalli made a fervent appeal to the people to stay indoors.

She said, “Unless on emergency services, I appeal to public to not step out of their houses. There is no reason to step out during this flood season. Request public to stay indoors and not to step out of their houses as water levels are rising across the district and more rainfall is predicted tonight. Those whose houses have been inundated may kindly approach their nearest Relief Camps. All possible services will be offered throughout. District administration is working for you night and day. Please cooperate in this act of nature. For any emergency, you may contact 1077 or 03842-234005.”

As per report received from Assam Water Resource Department, river Barak at Annapurna Ghat, Silchar at 5 PM on Wednesday was flowing much above the danger level and was recorded at 21.46 metres. The danger level at this point is 19.83 metre. The water level was was steady at this hour. This is the highest level of water (21.46 mt) at Annapurna Ghat recorded this year.

The highest flood level at this point was recorded at 21.763 on 11 September, 2007.
