Union Minister Nitin Gadkari terms Nehru, Vajpayee as ideal leaders
A strong opposition was necessary in a successful democracy: Nitin Gadkari
Aug 21: In what seems to be unusual in today’s politics, top BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari termed former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Jawaharlal Nehru as ideal leaders of Indian democracy. He further said that Nehru always respected Vajpayee. Gadkari said this at a function organised by Hindi news channel News Nation.
Commenting on the recent disruptions during the Monsoon session of the Parliament, Gadkari said, “I have worked in the opposition for so many years. So everyone must act with dignity.” He further added that those in the ruling party and opposition needs to introspect. “Atalji’s legacy is our inspiration and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru also had a big contribution to Indian democracy, ” he said.
Gadkari further said, “All parties should introspect. The one who is in opposition today will be in power tommorow, and those in power today will be in opposition, Our roles keep changing.” Speaking about the present state of Congress party, he said, “A strong opposition was necessary in a successful democracy.”
