Ujjawala Shelter Home assists in sending 4 trafficked girls to their home in Nepal
January 04: A few months ago, seven girls were rescued from a brothel at Silchar by the police with the help of a NGO from Nepal. Out of the 7 girls, three of them refused to go to their home state and preferred to stay there. However, four of them were minor and were brought to the brothel some 3 years ago. These girls too refused to go along with their parents. As the minor girls refused to go back with their family so the court sent these 4 minor girls to Ujjawala Shelter Home for counselling and safe custody.
At Ujjawala Shelter Home, the four minor girls were provided medical assistance and counselling to ensure them rehabilitation. After several sessions of counselling, the girls realised that they were trapped in the wrong side of life where their future would be doomed. Finally, they expressed their desire o go back to their home.
Ujjawala Shelter Home collected the home address of the four girls, got in contact with the NGO of Nepal who rescued them and successfully traced the location of the parents of the girls. With the help of the NGO, the parents of the girls came down to Sichar from Nepal to take back them. The girls were produced before the court at Silchar on 2 January, 2020. After completing all legal procedure, the girls were handed over to their parents.
The members of Ujjawala run by Barak Valley Welfare Development Society (NGO) expressed satisfaction as they were able to act as a catalyst in uniting the girls with their family members.
