Two fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected in Hailakandi, taking tally to 49

June 5: Two more fresh COVID-19 cases have been detected in Hailakandi district on Friday, taking the tally to 49. One person succumbed to COVID-19 infection.

Health authorities here disclosed that two persons namely Abdul Ahad, 26, and Abdul Hafiz Laskar, 27, with travel history to Maharashtra under institutional quarantine at AK High Madrassa, Tantoo have tested positive. Both of them reached here by train on May 30. They were shifted to the isolation wards of SK Roy Civil Hospital.

On Thursday, one Habizur Rahman Barbhuiya, 21 with travel history to Maharashtra turned out to be COVID-19 positive. He arrived here from Guwahati after seven days in quarantine and was under institutional quarantine at Polytechnic at Katlicherra. His swab sample taken at Guwahati tested positive. “As the second swab result of the youth sent to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital is awaited, and as a precautionary measure he has been shifted to the isolation ward of SK Roy Civil Hospital,” said a health official on condition of anonymity.

With this new cases, 28 persons infected with the disease are admitted in the isolation wards of the district hospital designated as COVID-19 hospital. Four infected persons have been referred to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Of the total 1,956 swab samples taken, 1,498 tested negative while the results of 405 are awaited, as on Thursday evening. Altogether 673 persons are under institutional quarantine centres while 456 under home quarantine. 114 persons were put under facility quarantine centres while 94 were sent to home quarantine on Thursday. There are 18 facility quarantine centres with a total bed capacity of 1,167.
