During Covid days Dilip Paul didn’t cooperate with me when I came here multiple times: HBS
March 29: “During COVID phase last year, I came to Silchar multiple times to visit Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) for Covid-19 management, but during that time, MLA Silchar Dilip Paul did not cooperate with me and rather criticised the government and its fight against Covid in the newspaper published from his house.” This was how, Assam heavyweight minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at the former BJP leader and present Independent candidate Dilip Kumar Paul during an election rally at Rangirkhari point, Silchar.
Continuing his attack upon Dilip Kumar Paul, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “During the last Parliamentary election, I earnestly requested Dilip Paul to campaign in favour of BJP candidate Rajdeep Roy. But at that time, Dilip Paul refused to come out with Rajdeep on the pretext of back pain. Now he is contesting against the candidate of BJP. But the people of Silchar will show him the way out of the electoral battle.”
Himanta urged upon the people not to vote for Congress as this would mean to help Badar Uddin Ajmal and AIUDF. “If Congress comes to power, all Madrassas will be opened again at the expense of tax payers money. We promise for improved road of Silchar to Assam university, we also promise to give Rs.3000 under Orunodoi scheme. Boys will be given bullet for performing well in HS Exam. Scooty will now be given to good performers in TDC and post-graduation. We have also given free admission to all,” said Himanta.
Earlier, a grand rally was taken out from the party office which then went along all the major points of Silchar town and concluded at Rangirkhari point. A huge crowd was noticed all throughout the town. Himanta appealed to vote for Dipayan Chakraborty for allround development of Silchar. He said, “Voting for Dilip Paul means to vote for Tamal Banik, so please don’t do so. Both myself and Rajdeep Roy are with Dipayan. Support him and make him victorious.”
