Triangular contest on for the prestigious Silchar seat

March 19: A total of 15 candidates are in the arena of the poll battle in Silchar constituency. However, the names which are doing the rounds for the probable victory are those of Congress candidate Tamal Kanti Banik, BJP candidate Dipayan Chakraborty and Independent candidate Dilip Kumar Paul. All three of them are having a hectic schedule and are trying to reach out to the people throughout the length and breath of the constituency.

No description available. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s huge rally at Bhatgram in Karimganj, the BJP leaders and workers appear to have a positive change in their body language. Riding on the popularity of PM Modi, BJP candidate Dipayan Chakraborty is going around his constituency to garner support. However, Dipayan’s worry now seems to be the Independent candidate Dilip Kumar Paul, who in all probability will have a bite on the vote bank of BJP. Though in terms of organisational matters, Congress candidate Tamal Kanti Banik appeared to be on a rear seat in comparision to Bharatiya Janata Party, yet his clean image has come up with a serious challenge to the BJP in Silchar. In short, the triangular contest for the prestigious Silchar seat seems to be a war of campaigning at this moment.

All three of them have jumped into the battlefield and are busy in door to door campaign, ward meetings, visiting markets & office. BJP’s candidate Dipayan Chakraborty is also very much in the race. Though his candidature was questioned by many within the party circles including the party patriarch Kabindra Purkaystha and Dilip Kumar Paul, yet this has not dampened the spirit of the supporters of Dipayan. BJP is moving ahead relying much on the strength of their “Lotus” symbol and the face of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The issue of syndicate raised by him has made people to have an eye of suspicion towards the party leaders. After being denied the party ticket, Mr. Paul is now contesting as an independent candidate. The fight for the Silchar seat, therefore seems to be too tough and also too difficult to project anything atleast at this stage. Though Dilip Kumar Paul has said that his fight is against Tamal Kanti Banik of Congress, yet in reality it seems to be a triangular battle of ballots. All three of them have got fair chances to win the Silchar seat.
