Lockdown violation: 1174 people arrested, 4763 vehicles seized in Assam

April 6: In order to fight against coronavirus, national lockdown was declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. National lockdown of 21 days started from the midnight of  24 March, 2020. Essential facilities like groceries, pharmacies etc were kept outside the purview of lockdown. The prime factor which was announced time and again by the government was “social distancing” while going out for making essential purchases.

However, in many parts of the country, people willfully violated lockdown. In Assam too, 946 incidents of lockdown violation were registered till 6 April. Police arrested a total of 1174 persons for violating lockdown. A total of 499 cases were registered in entire Assam. Police detained 4763 vehicles in the state. Further, 12 boats were also detained. Rs. 17,3900 was collected as fine for violation of lockdown. In a social media post, Assam Police wrote, “We again request citizens to follow lockdown guidelines.”
