To eliminate overloading of coal trucks, weights to be checked at Digharkhal & Srirampur
June 8: There has been several complaints as regards overloading of coal trucks passing through Assam. But no concrete steps were adopted by the state government in this regard. However, the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP government on Tuesday took a significant decision in this connection. From now onwards, the weights of coal laden trucks will be mandatorily checked at Srirampur and Digarkhal. The checking of the coal laden trucks will continue in the state till 31 March. The entire process will be monitored by the Chief Minister, Finance Minister and Transport Minister.
Conveying the decision, Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “In order to curtail the overloading of coal trucks passing through Assam, it was decided to check the weights of trucks at Digharkhal and Srirampur inter-state border gates. This practice will continue on pilot basis till March 31.”
