12 Nigerians travelling from Silchar arrested in 3 days from Meghalaya who entered India illegally

September 15: A total of 12 nationals of Nigeria were arrested by the Meghalaya Police during the last three days in three separate incidents. All of them travelled by air from their country to Bangladesh, but later on entered India illegally. Cases have been registered against all of them and investigation in on.

On 12 September, 3 Nigerian citizens traveling in a bus from Silchar to Guwahati were arrested in Khliehriat, Meghalaya by the police during routine search. After preliminary investigation, Meghalaya police revealed that they were helped to cross the border by some local people of Bangladesh as well as of India. The 3 arrested were identified as Okeke Ifechukwu, Koman Daniel and Nnyinide Jamina Okenchukwu.

Again, in the early hours of 14 September, six more Nigerian citizens were arrested by the Meghalaya Police. They too were travelling in a delux bus from Silchar to Guwahati. They too entered the Indian territory illegally through Bangladesh. Cases were registered against them under Foreigner’s Act.

On 15 September again, 3 Nigerian nationals were apprehended from Meghalaya by East Jaintia Hills Police while they were traveling in a bus from Silchar to Guwahati. That means, in the last 3 consecutive days, a total of 12 Nigerian nationals were arrested from Meghalaya.

Meghalaya East Jaintia Hills Police arrested three more Nigerian citizens during checking at Ratacherra early morning today while they were traveling in a bus from Silchar to Guwahati. Total 12 arrested in last 3 days. Investigation is on to unearth their motive. However, in separate tweets, Meghalaya Police has criticised Assam Police for not being vigilant enough to nab these Nizerians who boarded bus from Silchar in Assam.
