TMC denied permission to hold ‘padyatra’ on 15 & 16 Sept in Agartala
Sept. 13: Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been keeping an eagle’s eye on Tripura in order to capture political power in the forthcoming Assembly election. The party has been sending its top leaders to the capital Agartala off and on. Recently, Sushmita Dev, who joined the party last month was also sent to Agartala to expand the wings of TMC.
On 15 September, TMC was supposed to held a grand ‘padyatra’ (rally) at Agartala where the party’s General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee was to take part. However, when everything was ready for the rally, Biplob Deb-led BJP state government refused permission on the ground that there is another rally spread all across the city on the same day, which would go through the entire city and follow the same route.
Expressing anguish, TMC leader Sushmita Dev said, “How is that even possible?…. We have now shifted the ‘padyatra to 16 September. What is Biplob Kumar Deb going to do?” However, in a letter issued by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) of West Tripura, Agartala on 15 September, it was stated that, “It is not possible to permit for holding of rally on 16/09/2021 since there will be law and order commitment of Police in view of Viswakarma Puja which falls on 17/09/2021.”
Police has refused permission for the padyatra of @AITCofficial to be led by @abhishekaitc in Agartala on 15th September.
Police claims another political party has taken permission at the same time for the entire city of Agartala. @BjpBiplab is clearly quaking..
