The new govt will take final decision on HSLC & HS exams, says Himanta Biswa Sarma

April 15: On 2 May, 2021, the counting of votes for the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly will take place. This would be followed by the formation of the new state government. It is only after that the decision as regards the conduct of HSLC & HS by SEBA and AHSEC will be taken. On Thursday, this was stated by the State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It needs mention here that CBSE has already cancelled Class X final examination and postponed the Class XII exams. Many other State boards in the country has also taken a similar decision. However, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Due to the existing Code of Conduct, it is not proper for the state govt to take any decision at this juncture. This is because any such decision taken amidst the Code of Coduct in vogue needs approval of the Election Commission. Since HSLC will begin on 11 May, so decision can be taken after 2 May by the new government.”

He further added that any decision in this connection ought to be taken keeping in mind the Covid situation in the state and the ground level conditions in conduct of the exams. The Minister, however, expressed that it is not feasible to conduct these examinations in online mode here in Assam.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Education Bhabesh Kalita on Thursday while attending a Bihu programme at Rangia said, ““If the COVID situation doesn’t normalize ahead of the HSLC/AHM examinations, then the state government might have to think the alternative way to get on with the situation.”
