Tata Technology Centre opens at Srikona ITIs
Virtual inauguration by Chief Minister

way2barak, Feb 27 : In a significant boost to skill development and technology-driven training in rural Assam, the Tata Technologies centre was formally inaugurated at Government ITI Srikona and Women ITI, Silchar on Thursday, marking a major step towards industry-integrated vocational education.
Notably, the Srikona inauguration formed part of a larger state-wide initiative, as a total of 31 state of the art technology centres in 17 ITIs and 14 polytechnics in collaboration with Tata technologies Limited across Assam were formally and virtually inaugurated on the same day by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at Jyoti -Bishnu Antarjatik Kalamandir, Khanapara from Guwahati, symbolically connecting state leadership with grassroots transformation. These centres will provide courses in advance manufacturing technology, automation and digital design. Assam Govt has also planned to complete more 24 such technology centres by June, 2026.

The twin inauguration programmes at Srikona reflected a strong convergence of governance, education, and community participation. Both programmes were presided over by Banesh Bodo, Principal of the training institutions, who highlighted the importance of aligning technical education with real-world industry needs. He described the initiative as “a decisive move towards making rural youth job-ready through practical exposure, modern tools, and digital learning platforms.”
Babul Hore, Chairman of the Institute Management Committee, attended as the chief guest and underlined the role of local institutions in shaping Assam’s future workforce. “This is not just an inauguration; it is the foundation of a sustainable ecosystem where skills meet opportunity,” he said.
Adding to the occasion’s significance, former Principal Ashim Kumar Nag and several former staff members were present, along with respected citizens from neighbouring areas, reflecting strong community ownership of the institutions. Their presence symbolised continuity, collective responsibility, and faith in the transformative power of education.
The launch of Tata Technologies at the two ITIs is expected to enhance technical training standards, improve employability, and open new pathways for students in emerging technology domains.
