Sweeper of Municipality clears administrative services exam, becomes Dy Collector in Rajasthan
July 16: In an exemplary move, a woman sweeper in Jodhpur Municipal Corporation has cleared the Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) examination and would soon be given a posting as a Deputy Collector. She has proved that no barrier can stop a woman if she is determined to achieve what she wants. Asha Kandara, a mother of two kids had given the exam two years ago. Asha was unable to receive her results because of the delay caused due to COVID-19.
Twelve days after she took the exam, she got a job as a sweeper with the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation. The mother swept the streets of Jodhpur for her and her kids’ survival while waiting for the RAS result. She that the discrimination she faced in society was the thing that ultimately became her inspiration to change her life. She gave the credit of her success to her family members. Asha Kandara also mentioned that she wanted to become an IAS officer, but could not appear for the exams due to age-related restrictions.
