Suspected explosives found in Assam- Mizoram border, bomb squad in action

Nov. 6: Suspected explosives were recovered at Khulicherra in the Assam-Mizoram border area of ​​Cachar district. This has given rise to new tension between the two states. The locals are blaming Mizoram for this. However, the Assam police is yet to ascertain and reveal the actual hands responsible behind planting of the bomb.

Ramandeep Kaur, Superintendent of Police, Cachar said that suspected explosives were found in Khulicherra on Saturday. The suspected item also had a detonator attached to it. Upon receiving the news, the bomb squad rushed to Khulicherra. Search was also carried out to find out if there were more explosives around that area. As the area is very near to the Assam Mizoram border, so naturally, the finger of suspicion was raised towards the Mizos. This angle is also being examined by the police. However, at this moment, the police department is not ready to divulge more information for the sake of investigation.

The bomb squad which came for investigation at Khulicherra dug a 5 feet deep well inside the forest and kept the suspected item inside it. As per reports, expert team will arrive here on Sunday to carry out further investigation.

On last Tuesday, a similar explosion took place at Ramnathpur in Hailakandi district which is in the Assam- Mizoram border. Assam Police found a jawan of IR Battalion of Mizoram roaming in that area. The jawan, identified as Laldin Tuanga was arrested in this connection. He was produced in the court the next day. The jawan was later on released on bail at the direction of the court. Residents of Khulicherra aired the view that an attempt was made by miscreants to cause an explosion on Saturday, but somehow, it did not achieve success.

Earlier on July 26, six Assam Police personnel were killed by the Mizo forces. Although due to the mediation of the Union Home Ministry, peace was restored between the two states, but still sporadic incidents of violence prevailed in the bordering districts of Assam.
