শুধু বাঙালিদের মারতেই ওরা এসেছিল, বেঁচে ফিরে বললেন সহদেব
Survivor of Tinsukia attack narrates the horrific tale of the cursed night

২ নভেম্বর : ‘রাখে হরি মারে কে’ এই প্রবাদ বাক্যটি সত্য প্রমাণিত হলো সহদেব নমঃশূদ্রের জীবনে। তিনসুকিয়ার ধলায় বাঙালি নিধন যজ্ঞে বরাতজোরে বেঁচে গিয়েছেন তিনি। কিন্তু সেই সন্ধ্যার মর্মান্তিক দৃশ্যপট, একনাগাড়ে বন্দুকের গুলি, একের পর এক মৃত্যু, এসব দুঃস্বপ্নের মতো বার বার তাঁকে আঘাত করছে। কীভাবে যে তিনি বেঁচে গেলেন, তা এখনও বিশ্বাস হচ্ছে না তাঁর।

সহদেবের ভাষ্য অনুযায়ী, শুধু বাঙালিদের মেরে ফেলতেই ওরা এসেছিল। আর কিছু নয়। কারণ ওই সময় রাস্তা দিয়ে দু’জন বিহারী মোটর বাইক চালিয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন। অস্ত্রধারীরা প্রথমে তাদের আটকালেও পরে ছেড়ে দেয়।

সহদেব বলেছেন, ওই সন্ধ্যায় একটি চায়ের দোকানে তারা বসেছিলেন। জলপাই রঙের পোশাক পরা কয়েকজন তাদের সেখান থেকেই ডেকে নেয়। একটু আড়ালে নিয়ে গিয়ে সবাইকে ভয় দেখাতে শুরু করে। এরপর ৬ জনকেই এক লাইনে বসিয়ে নানা হুমকি দিতে শুরু করে। এর মধ্যে একজনের মোবাইলের আলো দেখে সেটি কেড়ে নেয় জঙ্গিরা। কিছুক্ষণের জন্য নিজেদের মধ্যে হিন্দি ও ইংরেজিতে কী সব কথা বলে। এরপরই গুলি চালাতে থাকে। প্রায় ৪০-৫০ রাউন্ড নাগাড়ে গুলি ছোড়ার পর তারা থামে।

সহদেব বলেন, তাঁকেও গুলি করে। কিন্তু তার জ্যাকেটে লেগে গুলি লক্ষ্যভ্রষ্ট হয়। তিনি মাটিতে পড়ে জ্ঞান হারিয়ে ফেলেন। একটু পরে জ্ঞান ফিরে এলেও তিনি মড়ার মতোই মাটিতে শুয়ে থাকেন। কেউই আর বেঁচে নেই ভেবে অস্ত্রধারীরা সেখান থেকে কেটে পড়ে। সহদেব জানান, কিছু সময় পর উঠে তিনি দেখতে পান, একজন তখনও বেঁচে ছিলেন। ওই ব্যক্তি জলের জন্য কাতরাচ্ছিলেন। তাঁকে সঙ্গে করে বাড়িতে নিয়ে আসার চেষ্টা করলেও তিনি পথেই প্রাণ হারান। এরপর অবশ্য এলাকার অন্যদের খবর দেন তিনি। লোকজন আসেন। কিন্তু ততক্ষণে সব শেষ।

Such a rare incident occurred in the life of Sahadev Namasudra, the lone survivor in the Tinsukia massacre. A survivor of the indiscriminate firing incident in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday night, in which five people were killed, said on Friday that the assailants had come in two groups and carried out the attack. But how did Sahadev survive? He narrated the never to be forgotten episode of his life.

As per Sahadev’s version, the gunmen came only to kill the Bengalis. He told reporters that he had a providential escape as he fell down unconscious out of fear and nervousness when the gunmen started firing after they lined up all of them. All of them were playing ludo near a shop. The assailants came on motorbike wearing army dress and covering their face. Before firing, they spoke among themselves in Hindi and English. They also took away his mobile.

When he regained consciousness, Sahadev found one of the five men to be alive still. He asked Sahadev for water. But before he could act, the man passed away. Sahadev then raised a hue and cry and informed others.

The locals alleged negligence by the police in providing security, adding that the nearest police outpost 200 metres away had switched off their mobile phones after the incident. Sahadev is indeed having a tough time to forget the incident. He said that he is unable to sleep as that memory keeps on lingering before his eyes. Sounds of wailing rent the air in the village with bereaved family members and villagers mourning the death of the five locals.
