Student of NC College arrested for protesting against MLA Katigorah! Road blocked; later released

Dec. 3: In a tragic incident, 5 students of NC College, Badarpur lost their lives in a road mishap that took place in Kalain on Wednesday afternoon. The students were coming back to their home after attending class in NC College in an Alto car. Suddenly, there was a head-on- collision with a truck in which the students died. Immediately, the locals and other students of NC College sat for dharna and blocked the highway.

MLA Katigorah Amar Chand Jain arrived at the spot after a few hours. His late arrival was resented by the agitating crowd. MLA Jain told them that he was in a far off place for some official work. However, frequent accidents in Kalain and almost no action by the police gave birth to anger among the people over there. A host of questions were hurled on the local MLA. Finally, unable to satisfy the people, MLA Amar Chand Jain left the spot.

However, as per reports, a student of NC College, Badarpur, Sibli Barbhuiya was picked up by Cachar Police on Wednesday from the site of the accident for registering protest against Katigorah MLA. On Thursday, when the students of NC College, Badarpur came to know about this, they instantly raised a voice of protest and blocked the main road in front of their college. Slogans were raised demanding the release of Sibli Barbhuiya. All vehicles in both sides of the road came to a standstill. However, later on, the road blockade was withdrawn after Sibli Barbhuiya was released by the police.
