Strange! New road built in Silchar with electric post in middle may cause fatal accidents
Oct. 27: In what seems to be a perfect example of lack of coordination between different government departments is the new road built in Silchar from Hailakandi Road point to Medical College point. The road was constructed just before the recently concluded Durga Puja after State Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma gave strict directions to the district administration to finish the work of the road. After that, the concerned department completed the work on a war-footing.
However, what seemed to be strange is a fully functional electric pole in the middle of the road near Boter Tol area. Infact, earlier, when the road was much narrow, this electric pole was near the side of the footpath. However, now when the road was widened, this electric pole stands just in middle of the road. This has now become a major cause of concern for the people. Many concerned citizens have voiced grievance about this. The grievance seems to be justified from the fact that this electric pole may be the cause of major road mishap.
Drawing kind attention of the appropriate authorities,a resident of the area, Dr Manoj Kumar Paul took to the social media platform and wrote, “This Electric Post on the middle of the expanded Hailakandi Road Silchar (near Boter Tol) may cause fatal road accident at any moment, and more particularly during night. It needs to be removed immediately.
Expressing their views on the post of Dr Paul, many netizens have also expressed grievance. One Buddhadeb Choudhury wrote, “Just half an hour ago, after dropping someone in a Nursing home, while turning back, I was surprised and was confused whether I will take left or right side of that Post. Immediate & necessary action must be taken.” Former Professor of Cachar College, Dr Santosh Ranjan Chakraborty wrote, “How horrible. Such can happen only here. There are some more of it, though not just in the middle.” Tagging Silchar MP & MLA, a netizen Saumitra Chakravarty wrote, “Is this a some kind of joke Sir made by our concerned authorities due to lack of coordination between departments. Kindly take immediate & necessary action as soon as possible.”
Before this “electric pole” becomes the cause of any fatal street accident, the concerned departments should immediately be directed by the district administration to get it removed from the middle of the road.
