Stranded people in other states to be brought back to Assam in phased manner & balanced way: Himanta
May 01: Many persons from Assam are stranded in various other states of the country. After getting nod from the central government, Assam government is now devising ways and means to bring back those people who got stuck in different states. In this connection, a meeting with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be held on Friday evening, where the final call will be taken on this issue. This was said by State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on Friday afternoon.
The minister further informed that a proper plan will be made after the meeting with the Chief Minister to bring back the stranded residents of Assam in other states. However, he said that, at first, attempt will be taken to bring back people who have got stuck in other North Eastern states within a day or two. This would be followed by steps to bring back people from Kolkata and Siliguri. The minister said that ASTC buses will be used to bring back persons from these states.
Sarma further stated that it would not be possible to send ASTC buses from Guwahati to Delhi and other far-off states. For bringing people from those distant states, the state government will collaborate with bus operators in those places. He, however, mentioned that all those stranded outside will be brought back to the state in a phased manner and in a balanced way. The state will also have to keep in mind the number of persons who can be accommodated in the existing quarantine centres in Assam. The final decision, he said, will be taken only after the meeting with the Chief Minister on Friday evening. He told that detailed information in this connection will be provided on Saturday.
