Stranded people entering Cachar to be screened at Lailapur, Dirgarkhal & Jirighat
May 02: An emergent meeting in the backdrop of outbreak of coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdown was held on Saturday at Silchar which was Chaired by Barnali Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar. A threadbare discussion was held as regards the precautionary measures to be taken during the return of stranded people from the Northeastern states to the district.
In the said meeting, it was decided that medical screening points will be set up at Lailapur, Dirgarkhal and Jirighat to examine all those who would enter Cachar from other states. The screening points will be set up by the District Health Department. It was informed that the health department will conduct thermal screening of each passenger before they are allowed to enter the district. DC Cachar asked the PHE officials to ensure proper sanitisation and water at the three screening camps in the district. 108 ambulance will be kept at all three screening camps.
As regards passengers who would come by train, the district administration informed that, such passengers would be screened at Salchapra station in Cachar. Stranded people coming by train from Tripura will be screened in Karimganj. PPE Kits will be provided to the health staff while conducting thermal screening.
It was further informed that all borders will be sealed and vehicles will be allowed to enter into the district one by one. Police personnel will be deployed to check any illegal entry. DC Barnali Sharma also suggested that patwaris and assistants should be deployed with teams so that the screening becomes faster. She also informed that only symptomatic people will be sent for institutional quarantine and the asymptotic people will be sent for home quarantine.
The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Manabendra Devray, District Development Commissioner Jesica Lalsim, Additional Deputy Commissioners Rajib Roy, sumit Sattavan, A R Majumder, DFO Sannideo Choudhury, Joint Director of Health Dr Sudip Jyoti Das and District Surveillance Officer (Health) Dr Ajit Kumar Bhattacharjee and all the circle officers of the District.
